        早上好！我很高兴和荣幸地与我们的洛杉矶居民和朋友们一起庆祝2018年莲花节的开幕。在这个欢乐的时刻，我谨代表中华人民共和国驻洛杉矶总领事馆，向所有贵宾，来访者和参加者表示热烈的问候和良好的祝愿。

        莲花节以亚洲和太平洋岛屿的人民和文化为特色，为洛杉矶居民提供了一个独特的机会，以庆祝亚洲和太平洋岛屿社区的文化遗产，并展示洛杉矶这个充满活力的城市的民族和谐和文化多样性。许多不同种族和文化背景的社区称之为家。我特别高兴和荣幸的是，今年中国再次成为荷花节的主办国。中国是一个历史悠久，文明古老的国家，正在经历着深刻的变化。

        中华文化丰富多彩，与华人社区一起构成了洛杉矶这个社会多元文化镶嵌的重要组成部分。我很高兴向您介绍来自当地华人社区的艺术家，文化表演者和手工艺人，他们将演奏中国音乐，舞蹈，歌剧，太极以及中国书法，剪纸和其他传统艺术工艺。热烈的欢迎您们访问今天在场的中国展亭。我希望他们能给你一些中国文化是非常绚丽多彩的想法，并引起你们更多关于中国探索的兴趣。

Hon. Mayor Garcetti,

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

        Good Morning! It gives me greatpleasure and honor to join our fellow Angelenos in celebrating the opening of2018 Lotus Festival.

        On this joyous occasion, I wishto extend, on behalf of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of Chinain Los Angeles, warm greetings and best wishes to all the distinguished guests,visitors and participants of the event.

        The Lotus Festival, whichfeatures the people and cultures of Asia and the Pacific islands,provides a unique opportunity for the Angelenos to celebrate cultural heritageof Asian and Pacific Island communities and showcase the ethnic harmony andcultural diversity of Los Angeles, a vibrant city which many communities ofdifferent ethnic and cultural backgrounds call home.

        I am particularly pleased andhonored that this year China has once again been highlighted as the hostcountry of the Festival. China is a country with long history and ancientcivilization and is experiencingprofound changes.  Chinese culture is rich and colorful. Together with the Chinesecommunity, they have formed an integral part of the multicultural mosaic ofthis society.

        I am very pleased to introduce toyou the artists, cultural performers, handcraft artisans from the local Chinesecommunity who will later give performance ofChinese music,dances, opera, Taichi and presentations of Chinesecalligraphy, paper cutting and other traditional art craftsmanship. You aremost welcome to visit the Chinese Pavilion.I hope they will give you some ideas of the splendor of Chinese culture andlead to a greater interest in exploring more about China.

        Cultural diversity brings harmonyand adds strength to the society. It promotes understanding and cooperationamong different communities as well as countries and peoples. In today's world,we need more inclusiveness, better understanding, closer exchange andcooperation to make our community and the world more harmonious and prosperous.

        While we appreciate the greatimportance of cultural diversity, it is gratifying to see that the LotusFestival has built up a good platform for promoting exchanges and interactionsbetween different cultures and different communities- On this note, I wish tothank the Los Angeles citygovernment, particularly the Department of Recreation and Parks, the LosAngeles Lotus Festival Inc, the Chinese community cultural groups and all thoseinvolved for their hard work in organizing and preparing for the event. Ibelieve with your valuable contribution, this year's festival will surely beanother great success.
